LingoFire — Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Welcome to LingoFire ("the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and safeguard your information when you use the App on Android or iOS devices.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information to provide and improve the App:
2.1 Google Account Information (Sign-In)
LingoFire requires you to sign in with a Google account to use the App. When you sign in, we receive the following information from Google:
- Your email address
- Your Google display name
- Your Google profile photo (if you have one)
- A unique Google user identifier
This information is used solely to create and authenticate your account, identify you within the App, and provide customer support. We do not access any other Google services or data on your behalf, and we do not post anything to your Google account.
2.2 Game Activity and User-Generated Content
When you play LingoFire, we collect the following game-related data:
- Display name you choose for the App
- Answers you submit during rounds (words you type for the Name, Animal, Place, Thing categories)
- Scores, round results, and game history
- Room codes you create or join
- Purchase records if you buy the optional ad-free / premium upgrade (see Section 4)
- If you report or block another player: the player you report, the reason you select, a copy of the reported content (such as a display name or a submitted answer), and the players on your block list
- If you use the Friends feature: your friends list, your shareable friend code, friend requests you send or receive, and game invitations you send or receive
- Your online/availability status — whether the App is currently open and connected — which is shared with the players on your friends list so they can see when you are available to play
This data is necessary to run multiplayer games and show results. Note that your display name, answers, and scores are visible to the other players in the same game room.
2.3 Device, Diagnostic, and Analytics Data
We automatically collect technical information when you use the App, including:
- Device type, operating system version, and App version
- Crash reports, error logs, and performance traces
- Advertising identifiers used by Google AdMob to display ads (see Section 5)
- General usage patterns such as features used and session duration
This data helps us diagnose technical issues, improve performance and stability, and understand how the App is used.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To create, manage, and authenticate your account via Google Sign-In
- To run multiplayer games, match you with other players, and display game results
- To submit your answers to an automated scoring service (see Section 4) so the App can determine which answers are valid for each round
- To display advertisements via Google AdMob and to operate basic ad measurement
- To analyse usage patterns, diagnose crashes, and improve App performance and content
- To respond to your inquiries and provide technical support
- To detect and prevent fraud, cheating, abuse, and security threats
- To operate player-safety tools — letting you report or block other players, and reviewing the reports we receive to enforce our content rules and remove abusive users
- To operate the Friends feature — letting you add friends by code or invite link, see which of your friends are currently online, and send or accept invitations to play together
- To comply with applicable legal obligations
4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Service Providers
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4.1 Service Providers We Use
LingoFire is built on services provided by Google. The following Google services receive and process data on our behalf:
- Google Sign-In — authenticates you when you log in. Google receives standard sign-in metadata (your IP address, device info). See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Authentication — manages your account credentials and session.
- Cloud Firestore — stores your display name, profile, game history, room data, scores, leaderboard entries, moderation reports, and (if you use the Friends feature) your friend connections, friend requests, and game invitations.
- Firebase Realtime Database — stores in-round answers and your online presence status so multiplayer rounds stay in sync in real time and the players on your friends list can see when you are online.
- Firebase Crashlytics — collects crash reports and error logs so we can fix bugs.
- Firebase Analytics — collects anonymous usage events (such as game completions and session length) and standard device/region metadata so we can understand engagement and improve the App.
- Firebase Cloud Functions — runs server-side logic for the App, including the answer-scoring function.
- Google Gemini API — when a round ends, the words you submitted as answers are sent (without your name or email) to Google's Gemini language model via our Cloud Function so it can determine which answers are valid words in the relevant category. See Google Gemini API Terms.
- Google AdMob — displays advertisements in the App and may collect your advertising identifier and other device signals to serve ads. See Section 5 and Google Ads Privacy.
- Google Play Billing — processes optional in-app purchases (such as the ad-free / premium upgrade). Google handles your payment; our Cloud Function receives only a purchase token and product identifier (never your card details) to verify the purchase and unlock the feature on your account.
These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and our service agreements with them, and they process data only as needed to provide their services.
4.2 Other Players
When you play a multiplayer game, the other players in your room can see your display name, the answers you submit, and your scores. Your display name and scores may also appear on public daily and weekly leaderboards that are visible to all players of the App. Please choose a display name you are comfortable sharing publicly.
If you use the Friends feature, players you have added as friends can see your display name, whether you are currently online, and can send you invitations to play. A player can only add you as a friend if you share your friend code or invite link with them. You can remove a friend, or block a player, at any time.
4.3 Legal and Other Disclosures
- Legal compliance: If required to do so by law, regulation, or valid legal process (such as a court order or government request).
- Protection of rights: To enforce our Terms of Service, protect the safety of our users, or prevent fraud or illegal activity.
- Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity. We will provide notice before your personal data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Advertising
LingoFire displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier and certain device signals to deliver ads and to measure ad performance.
You can control ad personalisation in your device settings:
- Android: open Settings → Google → Ads to reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised advertising.
- iOS: when prompted by the App Tracking Transparency dialog, you can choose to disallow tracking. You can also manage this at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised based on your activity across other apps and sites.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region where consent is legally required, the App asks for your consent before enabling analytics and personalised advertising, using Google's consent management platform. You can review or change your choice at any time via the "Manage consent" option in the App's Settings. Where you decline, we do not enable analytics collection or personalised advertising.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure operated by our service providers. We rely on industry-standard technical and organisational measures, including encryption of data in transit, access controls, and the security features provided by Google Cloud and Firebase, to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's services. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes. When you delete your account, your friend connections are also removed from your friends' lists, and your friend code, friend requests, and pending game invitations are deleted. Game invitations are short-lived and expire automatically. Crash reports and aggregated analytics may be retained for diagnostic purposes.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your country or region of residence, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- The right to request deletion of your personal data and account
- The right to restrict or object to certain processing of your data
- The right to data portability (receiving your data in a structured format)
- The right to withdraw consent where processing is based on your consent
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details provided in Section 11. We will respond to your request within the timeframe required by applicable law.
9. Children's Privacy
LingoFire is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum digital age in your jurisdiction). Google Sign-In requires a Google account, which Google's terms generally restrict to users above this age. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under the applicable minimum age without verifiable parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at the address provided in Section 11.
10. International Data Transfers
LingoFire is available to users globally and our service providers (including Google) operate data centres in multiple countries. If you are located outside the country where our servers are based, your information may be transferred to and processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.
Where required by applicable law, we and our service providers implement appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data during international transfers.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email prior to the change taking effect. Your continued use of the App after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
